Wolves, Braga battle for ascendancy

2019-20 UEFA Europa League

Group Stage, Matchday 5

Thursday 28 November 2019

Wolverhampton Wanderers and SC Braga will battle for ascendancy in Group K of the UEFA Europa League when they meet at Estadio Municipal on Thursday 28 November 2019, kick-off at 20:55. The match is one of 24 across the continent in Matchday 5 of the second-tier UEFA competition.

Braga forward Wilson Eduardo

Braga lead the way in the group with 10 points, having claimed an important 3-1 home win over Turkish side Besiktas in their last outing in the Europa League. A brace from Paulinho and a late goal from Wilson Eduardo secured the points for the Portuguese side.

Manager Ricardo Sa Pinto will be hoping his team can maintain that level of performance and secure progression into the knockout rounds of the competition. Braga need only avoid defeat to achieve this goal, while a victory would guarantee top spot in the group.

Wolverhampton’s last outing in the Europa League was a 1-0 home win over Slovan Bratislava, secured by a last-gasp goal from Raul Jimenez. The result kept the English side in second place, breathing down the necks of Braga and within touching distance of a place in the next phase.

“We have responded and we embraced the challenge, it doesn’t change. It is about preparing to compete. We have to improve and grow a lot, it is about growing during the competition,” said Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo.

“Each moment that we compete is a moment that we try to make new things, new solutions and new lines – it is a new process. It is growing with the competition.”

Wolves forward Raul Jimenez

Wolves and Braga met in a Group K match back in September, with the Portuguese team claiming a 1-0 away win at Molineux Stadium thanks to a second-half goal from Ricardo Horta.

The other Group K match on Thursday sees Besiktas host Slovan Bratislava at Vodafone Park in Istanbul.
