Charlotte Hornets v Golden State Warriors

The Golden State Warriors will target an away win in North Carolina when they face the Charlotte Hornets at the Spectrum Arena in Charlotte on the morning of 21 February 2021, with tip-off at 03:00 CAT.

The Warriors up-and-down season has continued unabated, leaving them in mid-table in the Western Conference – way off the pace set by the likes of the Utah Jazz, Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers.

Golden State coach Steve Kerr has called on his team to improve their defensive displays, especially in the wake of an emphatic defeat to the Brooklyn Nets this past weekend which revealed how far off the level of the top teams they are.

“We didn't play a very mindful game," Kerr said. "You gotta come into a game like this, knowing you're an underdog, and knowing you've got to follow a gameplan and you've gotta have a plan how to beat them, and it felt like we were just out there hooping without much of a plan.”

The Hornets, meanwhile, have fared a little better in the Eastern Conference, though their results of late have often had more to do with their roster being decimated by injuries and health-protocol absentees.

“It is challenging just trying to figure out how to keep these guys fresh and competitive and keep the rotations moving forward,” admitted Charlotte coach James Borrego, who will hope the likes of Gordon Hayward, Caleb Martin and Cody Martin are fit to back-up rookie star LaMelo Ball, whose long-range shooting has been impressive.

"I’m not sure where the respect level is for his [Ball's] shot yet,” Borrego said. “Every team’s a little bit different with him. But he’ll continue to prove that he can shoot it. He shoots it with confidence."

In head-to-head stats, the Hornets and the Warriors have met in 60 Regular Season games since 1988-89. Charlotte and Golden State have both claimed 30 wins.

The teams met in two Regular Season clashes in 2019-20, with the Hornets winning both: 93-87 in November 2019 and 106-91 in December 2019, with the latter result featuring 33 points from Devonte’ Graham.
