2020/21 Spanish La Liga

Matchday 31

Spain
21-22 April 2021

Real Madrid will be hoping to close the gap on Spanish La Liga log leaders, Atletico Madrid when they face Cadiz at the Estadio Ramon de Carranza on April 21.

This will be the fifth meeting between the two teams across all competitions since 2005.

The two teams have recorded two wins each in their previous four competitive matches with both of second-placed Real's victories coming in La Liga.

The last meeting between Real and Cadiz ended in a 1-0 win in favour of the latter in a La Liga game which was played at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano on 17 October 2020.

Zinedine Zidane, the Real manager, says there are a lot of points left to play for in the title race after his side dropped points by drawing 0-0 with Getafe on April 18.

"I have to congratulate the players because it wasn't easy. We were very good defensively and we lacked something in attack. We have to keep going because we've got a lot of points left to play for," Zidane said.

"We're going to do just that. They've played well and made it difficult. They fought hard and dug in until the end. It's another point and we have to keep going. Giving up would be like throwing the towel in.

"I've got no comment to make about the referee. He's there to decide and he decided it was offside."

Meanwhile, Atletico will be looking to extend their lead at the top of the log when they host Huesca at the Wanda Estadio Metropolitano on April 22.

The two teams will clash for the fourth time across all competitions and Atletico boast an unbeaten record against Huesca.

Atletico have registered two victories, while the other game ended in a stalemate.

The two teams drew 0-0 in the last meeting between the two teams which was a La Liga match at the Estadio El Alcoraz on 30 September 2020.

Lastly, third-placed FC Barcelona will be hoping to boost their hopes of winning the title when they host Getafe at the Camp Nou on April 22.

This will be the 36th competitive meeting between the two teams since 2004 and Barcelona have been dominant.

Barcelona have claimed 25 victories compared to Getafe's four wins, while six matches ended in a draw.

However, Getafe claimed a 1-0 win over Barcelona in the last meeting between the two teams which was a La Liga game at the Estadio Coliseum Alfonso Pérez on 17 October 2020.
