2019 Women’s World Cup final
United States vs Netherlands
Sunday 7 July 2019
Parc Olympique Lyonnais, Decines-Charpieu
The 2019 Women’s World Cup final will have an interesting side plot as United States players Alex Morgan and Megan Rapinoe jostle to be the tournament’s leading goal scorer.
The final of the tournament sees the Americans take on Netherlands at Parc Olympique Lyonnais, Decines-Charpieu on Sunday 7 July, kick-off at 18:00.
Heading into the championship match, Morgan is tied at the top of the goal scoring charts with England’s Ellen White – each has scored six goals. Rapinoe is just behind the duo, having hit five at the 2019 WWC.
White will have the chance to add to her tally in the third-place playoff in Nice on Saturday, but Morgan and Rapinoe will then look to inspire a fourth World Cup triumph for America on Sunday – with the Golden Boot prize as a bonus incentive.
Rapinoe was the hero for United States in the quarterfinals when her brace ensured a victory over host nation France, while Morgan netted the decisive goal in the 2-1 semifinal win over England – and sparked some controversy with a tea-drinking celebration poking fun at their opponents.
Overall, United States are the leading scorers at the tournament with an impressive haul of 26 goals from their six matches (helped by their incredible 13-0 win over Thailand last month).
