2021/22 English Premier League

Matchday 38

Manchester City v Aston Villa

Etihad Stadium
Manchester, England
Sunday, 22 May 2022
Kick-off is at 18h00

Manchester City will look to secure a sixth Premier League title in 11 years when they host Aston Villa on the final day of the season at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, May 22.

The Citizens hold destiny in their own hands as victory against Villa will mean a successful defence of their crown regardless of the result between Liverpool and Wolves.

Pep Guardiola's side missed out on the opportunity to go six points clear of the second-placed Reds when they were held to a 2-2 draw by West Ham last Sunday.

However, Guardiola is relishing the chance to celebrate the title in front of the home fans and insists his players are ready to put their lives on the line to achieve something "incredible".

"We just have to win our game and if we don't, Liverpool will be champions," the Spaniard declared. "I can assure you of something - in one week our stadium will be sold out, will give them our lives and they will give theirs, all together.

"To do this is an incredible privilege, after many years together. It is incredible. To have our chance with our people, to win one game to be champions. I'm looking forward to it."

The Villans sit 13th in the standings after the 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace this past weekend, although they could potentially finish as high as ninth.

Steven Gerrard's team were on course to record their third victory in four games after Ollie Watkins opened the scoring in the 69th minute, but they allowed the Eagles back into the contest when Jeff Schlupp equalised nine minutes from time.

"Over the course of the game, I believe we created the better chances we just couldn't take them and we could only score one today," Gerrard said.

"We had the game where we wanted it, but we couldn't see it out. We've been naive, given a foul away and we haven't defended that situation well enough. We've only got ourselves to blame, so we're slightly more frustrated than our opposition."
