Defending champions Liverpool will be eager to start the new year with a bang when they take aim at Southampton in a 2020-21 English Premier League match on Monday evening.

The Saints go into back-to-back home games against West Ham United and Liverpool on the back of a 0-0 draw at Fulham as their winless run in the league extended to three matches.
Liverpool were also held to a draw (1-1) at home to West Brom before away fixtures to Newcastle United and Southampton. The result against a team in 19th place on the league standings came as a surprise and denied the Reds a chance to move five points clear at the top.
"It does (feel like a defeat), but we have a point more than before so that's completely fine," Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp told reporters.
"The boys are more angry than anything else because they know it wasn't perfect but that's it ... now we have to play the next game in three days.
"We have to be disciplined as well, in a different way. We have to do both, being offensive, active, creative and defensive. In the end, we drew a Premier League game, that can happen."

Liverpool took six points off Southampton last season. The Reds defeated their hosts 2-1 at St Mary's before cruising to a 4-0 victory at Anfield as they extended their winning run in this fixture to six matches.
