Italy will be determined to book their place in the UEFA EURO final for the fourth time when they square off with Spain in a semi-final match on July 6.

The Blues reached the final in 1968, 2000 and 2012 and they have been crowned champions once.

This will be Italy's sixth appearance in the European Championship semi-finals having recorded three wins and two defeats in their five appearances in the last four.

Italy's last semi-final appearance came at the 2012 tournament and they secured a 2-1 win over Germany at the National Stadium in Warsaw, Poland.

They are undefeated in their last five matches in the European Championship having registered five consecutive victories.

Their last defeat came against Germany at the EURO 2016 quarter-final match which ended in a 1-1 draw and the Germans won 6-5 on penalties at the Stade Matmut-Atlantique in Bordeaux, France.

Italy full-back Leonardo Spinazzola suffered a serious Achilles injury in their 2-1 quarter-final win over Belgium and his teammate Federico Chiesa wants to give him something to celebrate.

“I’m very sorry for Spina. He was having a great Euros. A fundamental player for us," Chiesa said.

"We are really like brothers and losing one is not nice, in a metaphorical sense. I wish him the best, he’s a great player and we will miss him in these matches.

"Now, he must think about recovering. We will try to bring him something great to give him great joy.”

The last meeting between Italy and Spain was on 2 September 2017.

Spain proved too strong for Italy as they ran out 3-0 winners in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier that was played at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu in Madrid.
