Italian star Fabio Fognini will be looking to clinch the 2020 European Open title in Belgium.

The 33-year-old is currently ranked as the world number 12 by the ATP and he will be eager to improve his rankings in Antwerp.

Fognini's most successful surface is red clay, upon which he has won eight of his nine ATP singles titles.

As a result, Belolli and Fognini became the first all-Italian men's pair to win a Grand Slam title in the Open era.

Known for his baseline play and big ground strokes despite his average stature, one of his signature shots is his off forehand, which he uses to great effect.

His tactics usually consist of a serve out wide, drawing a weak return, setting Fognini up to hit a clean winner off the forehand side.

European Open tournament director Dick Norman has disclosed they have been trying to get Fognini to Antwerp for years.

"Fabio Fognini, a colorful figure in the tour, who won the ATP Masters 1000 in Monte Carlo last year [after defeating Rafal Nadal]," Norman said.

"We have been trying to get to Antwerp for years and we have now succeeded. ”
