2019/20 UEFA Champions League

Matchday 5

26-27 November 2019

Valencia and Chelsea will meet for a crunch Group H game in the UEFA Champions League, with their clash set for Estadio de Mestalla on Wednesday 27 November 2019, kick-off at 20:55 CAT.

Chelsea forward Tammy Abraham

Valencia come into this clash placed third on the group standings, though they are in fact in a three-way tie one seven points with leaders Ajax and second-placed Chelsea. Los Che hit peak form in their last Champions League outing, thrashing Lille 4-1 in Spain thanks to goals from Dani Parejo, Adama Soumaoro, Geoffrey Kondogbia and Ferran Torres.

“I love that Mestalla is a pressure cooker. That's how we want it,” explained Valencia manager Albert Celades, who added: “We need the support of the people and these players deserve it. The fans’ patience paid off. We now have two victories in a row and our aim must be to build on this.”

Chelsea’s last Champions League clash was one of the games of the season so far, as they played out an incredible 4-4 draw against Ajax in London. The Blues’ goals were scored by Jorginho (two penalties), Cesar Azpilicueta and Reece James, leaving them in a position where they cannot afford to lose this match in Spain.

"We expected the group to be tight since the start of the competition - they are very good teams and every game is like a final. There are two games remaining and it's still in our hands; if we win the two games we go through,” said Chelsea defender Azpilicueta.

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard

In head-to-head stats, Valencia and Chelsea have met in seven previous European matches. The Blues have claimed three wins compared to one for Los Che, while three games have been drawn.

Valencia’s only win against Chelsea came in the teams’ first Group H meeting back in September, as forward Rodrigo struck the only goal of the game at Stamford Bridge in London.
