The Cityzens head into back-to-back matches against Brighton & Hove Albion and Palace this week on a three-game winning run in the league which has pulled them within touching distance of the leading pack.

Key to City's improved defensive display this season -- they have conceded the least amount of goals in the current campaign thus far -- has been the arrival of Ruben Dias and Pep Guardiola has reserved special praise for the Portugal international.

“The player who influences the team and is important in the team is the player who can play every three days,” Guardiola told City's official website.

“The quality is there, but if a player gets injured every few weeks, that is not good for the team. When you buy players you know their quality but don't know if they can play every three days, but he recovers immediately.

“His ability is incredible. He wants to learn. All of us are impressed with how he takes care of his body and his mind. The day after a game he is in the gym at 8:30 in the morning. He lives his profession 24-hours a day.

“I can assure you we have signed an incredible player for the next few years. And it is not easy to find that. That’s why we are so fortunate. Hopefully, he can continue at this level.”

Palace go into games against Arsenal and City this week having snapped a five-game winless run, which included a 7-0 loss to Liverpool, with a 2-0 win over Sheffield United last time out.

City took four points off Palace last season. A 2-0 win at Selhurst Park was followed by a 2-2 draw at Etihad Stadium with Sergio Aguero, who will miss the match due to Covid-19 protocols, netting a brace.
