Chelsea v Everton

2020-21 Premier League, Round 27

8 March 2021
Stamford Bridge, London
Kick-off: 21:00

Chelsea will look to avoid a home home upset against a potent Everton when the teams clash in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge on Monday 8 March, kick-off at 21:00. The match is one of 10 for Round 27 of England’s top flight, spread from Saturday 6 to Monday 8 March 2021.

Chelsea will come into this match on the back of a clash away to Liverpool on Thursday 4 March, with manager Thomas Tuchel hoping his side has continued their unbeaten start to his tenure. The Blues have been superb in defence in recent times, with a 0-0 draw against Manchester United this past weekend representing a seventh clean sheet in their last nine matches across all competitions.

“It was very encouraging defending from the wide positions against [Marcus] Rashford, Bruno Fernandes, so I have the feeling we deserved to win. On this level little details decide, and you have to take your chances. There was not many, two should be enough, but in the end we accept it. It’s a clean sheet and a strong second-half performance with energy and courage,” said Tuchel of their showing against United.

Everton are very much in the scrap for European places, with a top-four finish representing the peak of their ambition this season. Recent wins over Liverpool and Southampton have underlined the Toffees’ status as a form side coming into this clash, with manager Carlo Ancelotti looking forward to the chance to out one over a former team.

“We have a great opportunity to be in the top four and we would like to touch that position,” Ancelotti explained. “It doesn’t matter how long we can be there, but just to see how we feel if we are there. There will be a big fight until the end of the season and we have to be pleased we can fight for that position. It will be a dream to be in the top four, we are quite close… but the season is long.”

In head-to-head stats, Chelsea and Everton have met in 185 matches across all competitions since 1907. The Blues have claimed 73 wins compared to 58 for the Toffees, while 54 games have been drawn.

When the teams met earlier this season, at Goodison Park in December 2020, Everton claimed a 1-0 home win thanks to a first-half penalty from Gylfi Sigurdsson.
