2019/20 Premier League
23-25 November 2019
Chelsea will face a test of their credentials as Premier League title
contenders when they take on champions Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday 23 November 2019, kick-off at 20:30.
Just one point separates the teams on the league table, with Chelsea having moved up to third place on the log with their 2-0 home win over Crystal Palace, featuring goals from Tammy Abraham and Christian Pulisic.
Manager Frank Lampard reiterated his faith in the Blues’ young team: "I did believe in the younger players. I’ve watched them from afar. We know the academy well. Not just myself, Jody, Joe, Chris Jones.
"We do feel the club and we know them so that gave us a little bit of a headstart on that point but you never know with young players until you put them in and when you put them in in a bit of a group, even more so.
“If you’ve got two, three, four in there they really have to step up quickly at this level or it won’t last. They’ve clearly shown they have the ability, the mindset, the desire to play for Chelsea.”

City, meanwhile, dropped to fourth after they succumbed 3-1 away to league leaders Liverpool. However, Pep Guardiola’s side will be chasing a fifth consecutive home win across all competitions when the Blues head North.
“What happened [against Liverpool] we showed why we are champions, I am so proud of my team, more than ever. We can be proud of how we played against the strongest team in Europe,” said Guardiola.
He added, “I don't know [if City can catch Liverpool]. I am not a magician, I do not know the future. Now we have Chelsea at home, so we are going to try and beat them, and if we don't the next one.”
In head-to-head terms, City and Chelsea have met in 148 previous matches. The Blues have claimed 58 wins compared to 52 for the Citizens, while 38 games have been drawn.
The teams’ Premier League meetings last season produced two home wins: Chelsea triumphed 2-0 at Stamford Bridge in December 2018, but City claimed revenge with a 6-0 thrashing of the London club at the Etihad Stadium in February 2019, with a hat-trick from Sergio Aguero.
